Pre-shipment inspection is an independent check of goods at the supplier's premises before they are dispatched. Inspectors typically confirm quantity, check dimensions and specifications against the order, examine workmanship and packaging, and witness or review tests.
It is especially worthwhile for first orders with a new manufacturer, for high-value or critical items, and for goods where defects are expensive to fix once they arrive, such as materials for structural use or equipment for critical processes.
The inspection report gives the buyer evidence before final payment and shipment. If something is wrong, it can be corrected at the source rather than at the destination.
