Environment and sustainability
Responsible choices across sourcing and supply.
Freight and packaging
We consider shipment planning, transport routes and packaging as part of each requirement. Consolidating orders and improving container utilisation can reduce unnecessary movements and material use.
- We use sea and rail where routes and lead times allow.
- We consider nearer manufacturers where quality and cost are comparable.
- We match packaging to the product and transport conditions.
- We prefer recyclable, reusable or returnable packaging where practical.
Product life and supplier practices
We consider durability, energy efficiency and maintenance needs alongside purchase price. Quality-approved spare parts can extend equipment life. We also consider recycled-content materials where specifications allow.
Supplier evaluation includes environmental practices. We favour manufacturers that can demonstrate responsible management and progress in reducing waste.
Our commitments
We will:
- Ask new suppliers about environmental practices.
- Track freight and packaging to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Include a lower-impact packaging or logistics option in term supply proposals.
- Share available environmental information with customers on request.
Practical improvements
Better order planning helps avoid part-loaded shipments. We seek to reduce single-use plastics in protective packaging and encourage suppliers to reduce waste and increase recycling.
